Like ok i need ways to get residential like should i go door to door asking?

Put a bunch of ads on craigslist, you can put flyers on peoples doors and public places that allow them.

I used to run a window washing company and I ran into the same question...so here you go! I agree that craigslist always helps...and it's free! Also, dropping off fliers is OK, but going door to door is MUCH more effective.

While you are cutting lawns, but a sign on the sidewalk that promotes your services. Anyone walking or driving by will notice it and you should get some business that way.

Once you establish the residential game, brand yourself and look for new office developments going up. Get in touch with the contractor and make a deal!

Definitely flyers, signs and signs while you are actually working are great ideas. Door to door is probably the strongest of all of these. One additional option would be to go door to door and maybe offer a free first time mowing for a few select houses. This will let them see what a great job you do, get word of mouth because they're sure to talk about it and you might even be allowed to put a small sign in their yard saying something like 'this lawn maintained by xxxxx' if you get the right person.
It will cost you a little time, but it's hard for someone to look you in the eye and tell you that you did a bad job if you didn't. It's also harder for them to not have you come back at least a few times after you've done it for free once.
Try donating a few gift certificates for free lawn service to a local radio station to give away to listeners. This will get you some free radio promotion a lot of times. Depending on the local stations they may or may not be willing to do this, but it's worth talking to them and trying. Alot of times they are looking for free stuff to give out. You may be able to trade out lawn maintenance at a local radio station or newspaper for a small ad if they have lawns.

Perhaps you could give customers a way to remember you. Like those plastic bracelets with your website or contact number. Then give them to people.
