A name for a small business concerning desserts?

Postby PaulD » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:29 am

I'm starting a small business for selling desserts, and I need a name that is easy to remember, and has a cute pronunciation...

Any suggestions?

(10 points).

Thanks,

PS: I'm going to sell cheesecakes, biscotties, and souffles for now.

I'm thinking "Just Desserts," but that doesn't really sound that great to me. Have you considered using your name or the name of someone close to you (friend, relative, even a pet if you have one, u could use the pet as the mascot)? Another idea might be "Cheesecakes and more."

Hello friends

Check with your city or county business licensing office to see what type of licensing/permits you would need to start a dessert baking business. See if you require any certifications from the health or sanitation department.
Prepare for a health inspection. Your local health department will check that your location is ready for service; that your equipment works properly; that there is proper ventilation for ovens; that all areas are adequately sanitized; that there is food awareness and proper hand washing and that you do not have a pest problem. According to the National Restaurant Association, you should also review your local health code for any special, local requirements.
Find out the type of equipment you would need for your dessert business, such as ovens, refrigerators, work sinks/tables, mixers, storage shelves, baking sheets and pans and how much they cost.
Look for wholesale and retail stores in the area that carry the baking ingredients you need at an affordable cost.
Decide on a name and catchy slogan for your dessert business. If no one else is using the business name, register it. According to Business.gov, you may use your full name as your business name if you are the sole owner. However, if your business name is different from your name, you may need to file a fictitious name with a government agency, depending on your state (see Resources).
Plan what desserts you will sell. If you have a secret recipe that everyone seems to like, include it in your menu.
Attend business and baking classes to get ideas on growing your business and study creative ways to make your desserts. Keep updated on food safety regulations through training programs in the area (see Resources).

Thanks for all guys

Hello
Rutabaga Sweets is a dessert bar and bakery located in the Business Improvement District (BID) of Washington DC. We can loosely be described as a quick-service restaurant where customers sit around a bar and watch their desserts being made. The show, as well as the dessert, is our main selling point.

Rutabaga Sweets will hold true to its vision of being a new concept with an old fashioned feel in order to become a favorite spot for DC natives. As the reported national leader in money spent in restaurants, Washington DC is an optimal location for launching a new restaurant concept. Rutabaga Sweets also hopes to become a destination for the thousands of tourists, both American and foreign, who visit DC every year.

We plan to manipulate our location in the Business Improvement District to our utmost advantage. Both tax incentives and high traffic due to the MCI Center will give us an edge as a new business. As the BID fills up with new businesses over the next few years Rutabaga Sweets will receive an added boost of increased traffic. Therefore, we are aggressively planning for a 50% increase in sales the second year of business.

By creating a new niche in the restaurant industry, Rutabaga Sweets will increase sales by more than $145,000 over three years while maintaining a gross margin of 80%. Through a philosophy of "nothing but the best" regarding both product and service, Rutabaga Sweets will establish itself as an exceptional dessert bar in Washington DC. We also will gain a competitive advantage in take out and catered desserts.

Hi guys

The first name that came to me was All Tarted Up because it's a phrase I've always liked and I really like making tarts. I also like the idea that a nice dessert can in and of itself take an event to a different level and that clients can have just that portion of a meal catered and make it special.
However, the phrase may be a little low brow for some clients. alltartedup.com is also already taken (though if I go with that criteria I won't ever come up with a name).

Thanks for all
